Blog7 Quarter4-The Fault In Our Stars

The book I Just started is called The Fault In Our Stars. It is about a girl named Hazel and she has cancer so her mom sends her to this group full of kids who have/ or had. Hazel is a girl who is 17 and just like a normal teenager but with cancer. She doesn't like the group her mom made her sign up to and go. She feels like why should she go talk to other people about there cancer when she is almost dying. The first day of the group Hazel finds this guy that she thinks is cute (OMG <3) but she's what you would call "ainti social" but somehow her and this cutie, August Waters, start talking. August Waters had cancer but beat it. Hazel and August started falling for each other and Hazel mom was so happy she found a friend.

My favorite part in the book is when Hazel and August are talking out side and he pulls out a cigarette and Hazel says "WOW. You really just messed this up. You were doing really good. You know what it feels like to not be able to breathe and your going to risk your self by smoking that? Wow." This is my favorite part because August says " They don't kill you unless you light them. And I've never lit one. Its metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing." This stands out so much to me because its showing you that there may be something that is good or bad but it doesn't really matter unless you add the meaning good or bad to what you do.

Blogt6 Quarter 4-Kinda Like Brothers

The main idea of the book was that a foster kid named Kevon was moving in and Jerrette didn't like it. he thought Kevon was out to get him and that he wanted to just take his place in everything, even his mom was starting to love Kevon as her own. Jerrette family always takes foster kids into there home until they find a home but this time it was different for Jerrette because Kevon was around his age. They basically had to share EVERYTHING. Kevon has been through a lot and he kept a lot of things to his self. Jerrette didn't know half of the things he went through because they didn't really get alone. If you didn't get alone with someone it would take a lot for you to tell that person your secrets and everything you went through. So with that being said Jerrette thought he just wanted to hide and not talk to him about anything so he really didn't try to get to know Kevon.

I just finished the book Kinda Like Brothers by Coe Booth. The overall message of the book is " Every peer you meet isn't to get you". Or "You don't always have to trust a person but you do have to give them a chance to earn your trust." I think this is the overall message because Jarrettte never really gave Kevon a chance. If he would have probably gave him a chance and welcomed him with warm arms than he would have probably liked him and got alone with him very well. Kevon should have also had put in a little more efford to try to talk and become friends with Jerrette.

Blog5 Quarter 4- Kinda Like Brothers

I started a new book called "Kinda Like Brothers". In the first chapter of the book "Kinda Like Brothers" the main character Jarrettte doesn't want to share rooms with Kevon because he doesn't trust him. Kevon is a foster kid and the foster care home has to find a family for him so he is going to be staying Jarrette. Jarrette family has always took in kids who don't have homes but Kevon was different because he was around Jarrette age so they really didn't get alone. Kevon keeps secretes from Jarrette which makes him not like him even more than he does.  Everyone thinks they should be bestfriends and everything but really they hate each other.

In the book Jaretter finds out that Kevon has been keeping secretes and doesn’t want to tell him everything he knows. Jaretter thinks that Kevon is trying to take his family away from him and act like he is better than everyone. But really Kevon just wants his trust so he could tell him everything. In chapter 12 it says " I took a deep breath and tried not to be mad, expecially at Treausre. It took about ten breathes for me to finally stop be 100 percent mad and only about 88 percent was still mad." Treasure is one of Jarette friends but Kevon told him the one of the secrets he was keeping. And this kinda of back of the point where he feels like Kevon trying to take everything away from him

Blog4 Quarter 4- Rules

A update on the book Rules, is that author never really gave a diagnosis for David. The last few chapters are showing that David has grew and learned a lot of stuff and rules of the daily life. He learned how to feed him self. A little reminder of the book, David is a boy who has autism and his 12 year old sister Catherine has to teach him rules while their mom works. She tries her best to show her brother the wrong's and the right's. It doesn't say how old David is but autism has a big effect on your brain and it stops you from learning and doing things different from what a doctor would call a "normal brain" would do. There is all kinds of autism but David high functioning autism. He could do learned the simple life things like how to feed yourself and how to clean up after yourself. He is a non sociable person which means he needs help when it comes to socializing with people, and thats what Catherine been trying to teach him. Towards the end of the book Catherine meets some new friends of her own and they make Catherine think to herself " What is normal?"

In the book rules a sign post that kept coming up is Memory Moment. In the chapter " If you could only choose one, choose carefully" Catherine brought up something that happen when they were at the grocery store with David and she asked him " You remember when you wanted Ice Cream? And you also wanted Cupcakes? And you picked Ice Cream." I think Catherine asked him that because well life is just like that. Its a two way street. You could choose the bad road or the good road, and you have to choose carefully. This memory moment really stuck out with me because Catherine is a 12 year old and she really didn't plan on teaching her brother things that any other 12 year old would think everyone knows. And her teaching him things so that he won't be teased in his future, I mean it doesn't get better than that.

Would We Be Killed Response

The White Americans marginalized the Native Americans by making them change from what they believe into what the Whites wanted them to be. In the article it says “ Kill the Indian, save the man,” was Pratt’s saying.” This shows that they really didn’t want to kill the human ( Native Americans ) They just wanted to get rid of the pride the Native Americans had, and make them into what they wanted them to be (White Americans). They also wanted the kids to go to school that taught them how to be white so that the Native American kids won’t know how it feels to actually be them selfs. In the article it says “Native Americans were living on reservations, barely surviving on food and cast-off clothes provided by the U.S. government.” This shows another way that American Indian’s were marginalized if they didn’t want to change the way they nationality.

The purpose of the story Shanice Britton is to show that all nationalities are not the same. It also shows the reader how a girl who everyone expects to be like all Native Americans but she actually acts like normal American teenager. Shanice maybe Native American and does things as a normal American would but she still have her things and acts of showing that she is a proud Native American. For an example it says in the article “ (I did bring some deer jerky to my dorm room, because it’s familiar and reminds me of home.)” This shows that she wants to be reminded of home so that she feels like she’s not that far away and also something she could share wight the people at her college to let them try her food her family and herself eats. It also says in the article “Sometimes my classmates will tell me that I talk differently, because I’ll say something in slang “from the rez.” But that’s OK—it’s part of who I am. I’m not trying to hide that. In fact, I often wear my beadwork jewelry proudly around campus.” This shows that she is also not affriad to show that she is Native American and that she has a lot of pride for being Native American.

Blog3 Quarter4-Rules

The book I am reading is called Rules. The author is Cynthia Lord. The main characters are Catherine and her autistic brother David. David is austic which means he learns and catches on things a slower and different way than a person who is "normal" person would. His sister who is 12 years old teaches him the right way to do things. Every chapter in the book are different topics he has to learn. For an example in the chapter "Keep Your Pants On In Public." In this chapter Catherine shows him that he can't take off his pants in public.

People like David, who has autism, brain doesn't work like a normal brain works. There are different kinds of autism. The author doesn't tell the reader how old or what kind of autism David has, but you could tell he has high functioning autism. You could tell because in the chapter "Pantless Brothers Are Not My Problem" Catherine give him a piece of paper he has to read and he reads it out loud. A lot of people with autism can't talk or read. I could relate with Catherine because she wants to help and show her brother how to grow and do everything a normal person would do so he knows when he grows up that its not okay to behave off of what ever his first thought is. I also could relate to her because I want to help and show kids not just with autism but kids with any disabilities and show them how to work as a normal working human.

Tolerance-

Tolerance- The ability or willingness to allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of something, in particular the existence that one does not necessarily agree with
Tolerance to me is accepting someone who is different than you and just let them believe in them and what they believe in. You can't just judge a person off of what they like.

Blog 2-Quarter 4 When You Wish UPond A Rat

The main character’s name is Ruth. She is an 11 year old girl who favorite aunt died and before she died she gave her a pet mouse. She is a sky young girl who doesn’t know how to really cope with her problems, so when ever she had a problem she would go to her aunt but her aunt died. Her mom and dad are not really good parents to Ruth. She finds her self doing jobs that the parents are suppose to do like in Chapter 4 she has to find a way to get money to pay the bills. Reminding you this is an 11 year old. She is not the only child so she has younger sibling to watch and take care of, you would think they would be nice to right? Wrong. They make fun of her and play jokes on her. She doesn’t like school because her friends are jerks. Her pet mouse is not a normal mouse. The mouse could let’s say change her life.

I like this book because it was very different from the other stories I read. I think Ruth is a strong young girl who will have high hopes for her self. She had to learn at a young age how to take care of her self and what it feels like to be on her own. My favorite part of the book is when she finds the rat that her aunt left behind for her. If I got the chance to meet the author and  ask 1 question, it would be, “What made her aunt give her a mouse?”

Blog1-Quarter 4 Letters To My Mother Teresa Cardenas

The book I am reading is called Letters To My Mother Teresa Cardenas. The  book is about a young girl who mother died and she writes her mom notes and she's really young and she lives with a family that I would say the family treats her as their own but they also don't treat her as she's a stray.  But she feels as if they are only taking care of her so they don't feel bad about everything she is going through. She misses her mom and she just starting to get the feeling she's going to be alone for a long time.
A character trait the main character has is she's is really positive. I think she is positive because she always thinks about why spend your whole life being sad? I also like how she stays positive through out everything. There is many reasons why she could be sad and just mad at the world but she always finds a way to get a good look of everything, even with her mom dying.

Blog 8- Middle School Is Worst Than Meatloaf

The book I just finished reading is called " Middle School Is Worse Than Meatloaf" the overall book was about Ginny ( the main character) doesn't like school so she write a to do list for middle school and everything she has to do on the to do list is the opposite of what happens. Her dad died in a car accident and her neighbor is going to ask her mom to marry her. She has so many things on her mind that she can't handle all the stress. Her grandpa writes her letters with money. Something that keeps her positive is her count down to spring.
Something I like about the book is the way the other of events happen. For an example, when Ginny gets a letter from her neighbor asking to marry her mom, the author says creative like words to express how she feels and what's she's thinking. In the book In the book Ginny was writing a note and the author makes it as she is being sarcastic, it says, "Im sure if we follow these rules we will all get alone like a family". This shows that she feels like if they respect and have rules for each other they will get alone.A connection I have with her is, school is not for me sometimes. But the only difference is she doesn't know how to cope with the things that come up pond her.

Blog 7- Middle School Is Worst Than Meatloaf

The book I just started reading is called Middle School Is Worst Than Meatloaf. The main character are Ginny who is just starting middle school. Ginny is a shy young girl who hates middle school. I know this because when everyone was making friends on the first day of school she just thought of negative things about everyone and didn't talk to no one.Its actually the beginning of the year. She has no friends and she just doesn't like the thought of school. She tries to get threw 7th grade with the list of things she knows and been warned about, but however, it doesn't work out the way she planned. It seemed like to her after everything was happening everyone found out sooner or later, so it would be hard for her to make friends.

Something I like about the book is, the sense of humor and the details the arthur says when she's having a bad day or how she feels. I could relate to Ginny because when I fist started school I didn't like it, I had a bad idea and feeling about it. The only differences between me and Ginny are she faced way more obstacles than I did in 7th grade. I think if Ginny gives school and chance and actually try she would have fun and learn a lot.

Blog 6- Someone To Love Me

I finished the book Someone To Love Me! It was a really good book. It was mainly about this boy and girl in a relationship and they were having troubles because the boy in the relationship was beating on Cindy the girl in the relationship. At the end of the book Cindy makes a choose that will may be change her life. The mood in the book changes by how the author describes how Cindy or Booby feels or actions. Sometimes if the chapter is feeling sad the author wants you to feel the same way so he may change the tone of mood to sad or depressing.
I feel as if she really loved him would she wonder sometimes "If he really loved me would he hurt me?" Sometimes love makes you do crazy things, I understand but if you really love him/her you couldn't do any crazy to hurt that person. In the last chapter Cindy has to make a choose and she's scared so she goes to someone she has never went to for edvice of help. Her mom. Only 3 people know that Booby hits her so her mom doesn't know. Should she tell her mom? She's not sure neither.

Blog 5- Someone To Love Me

The book Someone To Love Me is about this girl Cindy and this boy Booby. There in a relationship and Booby hits and beats on Cindy. Only a few people know and by few I mean like 3 people. The 3 people to me are not good friends because they don't do nothing bout it but tell her that things will get better. They know how much she loves him but still if she's there friend she is getting hurt they should tell someone and be more worried than they really are. Her and her mom don't have that good of a relationship neither.
In chapter 6 they break up because Cindy was tried of everything he was putting her threw. Booby knows the right things to say to get back with Cindy because it wasn't there first time breaking up. So Booby made her feel like she mean the world to her and he saying he would never do this or do that ever again to her. So Cindy believe him and got back together with him. Like a week after they get back together things start to happen again he starts to hit her again and call her names. Something else happens.

Blog 4- SomeOne To Love Me

The book I just started reading is SomeOne To Love Me. Its about a boy and a girl who are in a relationship and they are so happy with each other . Everyone calls them cute and everything but know one knows the boy in the relationship starts drinking and doing drugs,  and as he stats to drink and do different kinds of drugs, he let's them take over his relationship and he starts to get physical with her. He hits her, he tells her mean things. But she doesn't leave him because she loves him to much. She tells 3 of her best friends but of course they want her to not stay with him but she tells them how much he makes her happy and how much she loves him. But they still don't understand.

Something I like about this hook is when there's a cause the author puts something before the effect happens. For an example say he starts drinking again (cause ) , the author will bring up something that happened days ago, than he will say the effect. The main conflict in the story is that every time he gets drunk or high he does these things he will not remember and regret the next day. I honestly think he doesn't mean to hurt her but when someone dos drugs they let them get the best of them.

Blog 2- Birmingham 1963

The book I am reading is called Birimnham 1963. These group of high schoolers took place in the march because they saw how bad the whites were treating the blacks so they felt as if they go to jail for standing up for what they believe ( civil rights) they wouldn't have a anything to lose. I really like this book because the Author taught the readers no matter if your young or old there's going to be people who stand up fore what they believe even if it puts there life in danger they want the best for everyone so there going to do what ever has to be done.

Some questions I have for the Author is where there white students who felt the need to help? Another question I have for the Author is if a white student did the part in the march will they get in trouble or treated the same way as the blacks?

Blog 3- Birmingham 1963

The book I am in the middle of is called Birmingham 1963. The conflict in the book is a lot of students getting together and making a protest for civil rights. In Chapter 5 the students had this rule that was for the march to be Non Violence, but some of the marchers disobeyed him and there was violence. The police was attacking the marchers and the marchers weren't giving up. People were getting beat, people were going to jail, people were fighting each other, the students and the parents didn't like it. But they didn't give up.
A A-Ha moment happen in the book where the police threatens the Marchers but they didn't care or stop marching. So once they realized they used weapons on the young marchers. Some of the students went to jail but had nothing to loose so they didn't stop until they got what they wanted. In the book it says "The principal of Birmingham's Parker High School even locked the front gates to prevent students from leaving." This shows that the principal of that school, didn't not want the students to take part in the march.

Blog 1- Birmingham 1963

The book I am reading is on MyOn and is called, "Birmingham 1963."  This books takes place in the town of Birmingham, Mississippi where many events like segregation occurred.  In chapter 1, these students of Birmingham got together and made this march even though they knew they were going to get arrested. They just did it to prove their point. It wasn't really a march; it was a protest. They called the protest: "The Children Crusade." As the protest took place, the weather was really hot which made it difficult to function or stay energized.  The students were singing freedom songs as the police and their dogs stand in front of them. The day before everything took place the police had arrested hundreds of students  and parents for trying to march into the neighborhood of where white people lived. The police let the dogs run wild and bit the blacks.

In the first chapter it says, "The water they used could knock a person down. As full strength,  it could strip a bark off a tree and tear a brick from a building." This quote stands out the most to me because they used weapons to try to kill the students just for protesting against their rights. I think most of the students protest because if they go to jail, they wouldn't have anything to lose.  For example, if some of the parents protest they would have probably lost their jobs or worse.

New Goals

This year my academic goal is to get good grades. Im going to work and try to achieve this goal by making sure everyday when I get home Im doing my homework and not forgetting anything. I think if I get I achieve these goal it will tell me in the future that anything is possible if you put your mind and really want to do something.         A different kind of goal I have is I want to be more nicer to people. I want to be more nicer to people because most of the time I’m not mean but Im not nice. Im going to try to achieve this goal by when I meet someone new be nice and calm. If I can achieve this goal it will make me a better person in general.
